Portfolio analytics for financial advisors: every client portfolio, tested in depth.

MEDGE Capital gives an independent advisor the tools of a risk desk for each client: backtests with exact per-holding attribution, stress scenarios propagated to every holding, VaR and CVaR, optimization on 12 objectives and reports you can hand over, on up to 200 saved portfolios.

  • Up to 200 saved portfolios and 200 watchlists on the Advisor plan
  • Client reports with up to 30 sections, exported as PDF, HTML, CSV or text
  • Stress Lab: 11 ready scenarios or your own shocks on 45 benchmarks, propagated to every holding

Last updated

Who it’s for

  • Independent advisors and planners who follow from a few dozen to 200 client portfolios of listed stocks and ETFs.
  • Advisors who want to show a client how the portfolio behaves in a crash before it happens, with numbers per holding.
  • Advisors working across US and European listings, UCITS ETFs included.
  • Advisors who already use Claude or ChatGPT and want portfolio analytics inside the assistant.

Who it’s not for

  • Firms that need custodian feeds, client billing or a CRM: MEDGE analyses portfolios entered as tickers and weights.
  • Performance reporting on actual transactions and cash flows, such as GIPS-compliant composites.
  • Private assets, real estate or unlisted funds, which have no daily price history to analyse.
  • Shared team workspaces: each subscription is for one user.

Step by step

How MEDGE Capital helps financial advisors, situation by situation.

01From Essential

A client asks: “what happens to my portfolio if markets drop?”

The client wants a number, and wants to know which holding would hurt most. A historical drawdown of the S&P 500 does not answer that for their mix of funds and stocks.

In MEDGE

  1. 1Open the analyzer (Portfolio → Analyze), use “Import saved” to load the client’s portfolio and press “Compute portfolio”.
  2. 2Go to the Backtesting tab, then the Stress Lab sub-tab.
  3. 3Choose a market type (bear, neutral, bull) and a horizon from one week to one year.
  4. 4Apply one of the 11 starting points, such as “Credit event”, “Tech & semis unwind” or “Rates up, duration sold”, or set your own shocks on any of 45 benchmarks: indices, US sectors, countries, styles, rates and credit, commodities, currencies.
  5. 5Read the outcome: the portfolio’s expected move with a 90% band, the hardest-hit holding, the best cushion, and the impact holding by holding.
  6. 6Move the weights in “Change the mix”: results update as you move, so you can show the client what a defensive adjustment changes.

What you get

A concrete answer you can discuss in the meeting: “in this scenario the portfolio loses about 8%, two thirds of it from the tech ETF, and this change halves it”.

Reviewing 100+ client portfolios every month

Opening every portfolio one by one does not scale. You need to know which clients need attention this month, and why.

In MEDGE

  1. 1Save each client portfolio once: the Advisor plan holds up to 200 portfolios and 200 watchlists.
  2. 2On the Portfolio page, “Your portfolios” lists every saved portfolio with returns from 1 day to 5 years, 1-year volatility, maximum drawdown, distance from peak, Sharpe, Sortino, and beta and correlation against the S&P 500.
  3. 3Sort by drawdown or distance from peak to find the portfolios that moved outside their client’s comfort zone.
  4. 4After the US close, the evening recap (in-app and push notification) summarises up to 10 portfolios and the biggest move among their holdings.
  5. 5Set price levels and big-move alerts (±3% to ±10%) on the holdings you watch most, through your watchlists.

What you get

A monthly review that starts from the portfolios that changed, not from the top of an alphabetical list.

Preparing the client meeting

Clients remember a clear document, not a screen share. The report has to be accurate, consistent from client to client and quick to produce.

In MEDGE

  1. 1Open the portfolio in the analyzer and go to the Report tab.
  2. 2In “Customize the report”, choose among 30 sections or a preset (Everything, Summary only, Technical only).
  3. 3The report opens with a one-page summary and an A–D grade, then covers composition and risk contribution, performance, extended risk with stress scenarios and the 5 worst drawdowns, attribution per holding, a Monte Carlo outlook, optimization alternatives and the benchmark comparison.
  4. 4Export it as PDF (through your browser’s print dialog), HTML to share as a page, CSV to reuse the numbers, or plain text.
  5. 5On Pro and Advisor, add the AI-written executive narrative that explains the numbers in plain language.

What you get

A consistent, client-ready report in minutes for every portfolio you follow.

Proposing a change, and proving it

Suggesting “less tech, more bonds” is easy. Showing what it changes in return, risk and worst case is what makes the client agree.

In MEDGE

  1. 1In Backtesting → What-If, move the weights, replace or remove a holding, or add a ticker; “Try without” and “Try +5” test one holding at a time.
  2. 2Read “What-if vs current portfolio”: metrics side by side, behaviour through the hard times, and who earned the return.
  3. 3Add the proposal as a second portfolio (the analyzer holds up to 8) and open the Compare tab: performance, drawdowns and 12 key metrics side by side.
  4. 4For a starting point, open Optimization and pick one of 12 objectives: Max Sharpe, Max Sortino, Min CVaR 95% or 99%, Min Volatility, Max Return, Max Calmar, Min Drawdown, Min Ulcer Index, Max Omega, Max Rachev or Risk Parity.
  5. 5Run both versions through the same Stress Lab scenario to show the difference in the bad case.

What you get

A proposal backed by the same metrics for both portfolios, including the scenario the client is worried about.

Explaining where the return came from

When a year ends below expectations the question is always “why?”. Pointing at the market is not an answer; pointing at the holding and the period is.

In MEDGE

  1. 1In Backtesting, the What-If panel “Who earned the return” splits the result exactly: each holding’s contribution plus costs adds up to the portfolio return.
  2. 2Regime Summary splits the backtest into bear, neutral and bull markets (or calm, normal and turbulent), and shows portfolio, benchmark and holdings in historical crises.
  3. 3Period Analysis zooms on any window, from 15 crisis and rally presets or a custom range, with the numbers holding by holding.
  4. 4From Essential, the Benchmarks tab scores the portfolio against a fair yardstick: excess return, alpha, beta, tracking error, information ratio, up and down capture, including composite benchmarks such as 60/40.

What you get

An explanation built on facts: which holding drove the result, in which kind of market, against which benchmark.

Finding the risks clients cannot see

Two global ETFs that are almost the same fund, a “diversified” portfolio that is 40% US tech, a hidden bet on the dollar: none of it shows in a pie chart of fund names.

In MEDGE

  1. 1The Overview tab’s Asset Correlation and Risk Contributions show holdings that move together and how much of the total risk each one carries.
  2. 2Portfolio Exposure measures each saved portfolio against 37 reference markets: what it behaves like (equities, bonds, gold and commodities), regions, sectors, style and sensitivities, plus “Label vs behaviour” where a fund does not act like its name.
  3. 3Combine several portfolios, equally or by capital, to see the exposure of a whole household.
  4. 4The Focus tab ranks 14 macro and geopolitical events, scored every day, by how much each one would hurt or help that portfolio.

Doing it from Claude or ChatGPT

Many advisors already draft notes and emails with an AI assistant. The analysis can happen in the same window.

In MEDGE

  1. 1Create a personal API key in your account (up to 5), or connect Claude.ai through OAuth.
  2. 2Add MEDGE to Claude Desktop, Claude.ai, Cursor or ChatGPT (on ChatGPT plans that support MCP connectors).
  3. 3Ask in plain language: “backtest the Rossi portfolio and compare it with a 60/40”, “stress test it for a rate shock”.
  4. 4The assistant calls MEDGE’s tools on your saved portfolios and answers with the numbers, including a plain-words line in euros.
  5. 5The Advisor plan has three times the hourly limits of the other plans, for days with many reviews.

What you get

Portfolio analytics inside the assistant you already use, on the portfolios you already saved.

What MEDGE does not do

Worth knowing before you decide.

  • No custodian or broker connection: each portfolio is entered as tickers and weights.
  • No conversion of a portfolio into one base currency: each instrument is analysed in its own listing currency.
  • Real-time prices for US listings during market hours; European listings use the last close.
  • No order execution, client billing or CRM.
  • Analytics, not advice: MEDGE does not recommend securities, and its results are not personalised recommendations.
  • One user per subscription.

FAQ

MEDGE Capital for financial advisors: questions.

Which portfolio analytics platform works for an advisor with 100+ client accounts?

MEDGE Capital’s Advisor plan (€159 a month or €1,590 a year) saves up to 200 portfolios and 200 watchlists and runs backtests, stress scenarios, VaR and CVaR, 12 optimization objectives and exportable reports on each. Portfolios are entered as tickers and weights; MEDGE does not connect to custodians.

Can I give clients a report with my analysis?

Yes. From the Essential plan, the Report tab builds a report of up to 30 sections, from a one-page summary with an A–D grade to stress scenarios and attribution, and exports it as PDF, HTML, CSV or text. From Pro, an AI-written executive narrative explains the numbers in plain language.

How do I show a client what a market crash would do to their portfolio?

Open the portfolio in the analyzer, go to Backtesting and then Stress Lab, and apply one of 11 ready scenarios or set your own shocks on 45 benchmarks. MEDGE estimates the move of the portfolio and of each holding, with a 90% band. The Stress Lab is included from the Essential plan.

Does MEDGE Capital work with European clients and UCITS ETFs?

Yes. Portfolios can mix US stocks and ETFs with listings in Milan, Xetra, Paris, Amsterdam, London, Zurich and other exchanges, UCITS ETFs included. Each instrument is analysed in its own listing currency; there is no conversion into a single base currency.

Is there a free plan I can test before choosing Advisor?

Yes. The Free plan has no time limit and includes the portfolio overview, the backtesting lab with rebalancing and costs, exact attribution, regimes, what-if replays and preset portfolio comparisons on one saved portfolio. Plus has a 7-day free trial. Every paid plan can be billed monthly or yearly.

Is MEDGE Capital investment advice?

No. MEDGE Capital is an analytics tool. It measures how portfolios behaved and how they could behave in scenarios you choose; decisions and recommendations to clients remain yours.

Start with your own portfolio, free.

Paste your tickers and weights. Backtests, attribution and regimes work on the Free plan with no time limit; upgrade only when you need the features above.
