Macro, positioning and flow data, connected to your portfolio.

Macro investing means reading positioning, liquidity and flows before prices move. MEDGE Capital brings the official sources together, CFTC Commitments of Traders, SEC 13F and Form 4, FCA short positions, Fed H.4.1 and SLOOS, global central bank balance sheets, Treasury TIC and Daily Statement, BIS credit gaps and Fed Z.1, and measures what each macro event means for the portfolio you hold.

  • CFTC COT for financial and commodity futures, with z-scores and the 52-week COT index
  • 14 macro and geopolitical events scored 0–100 every day, and their effect on your holdings
  • Fed, global central bank, Treasury and BIS data in the same workspace

Spotting crowded positioning in futures

When speculators are at a multi-year extreme in gold, the euro or Treasuries, the next move is often a squeeze. You need the extreme measured, not eyeballed.

In MEDGE

  1. 1Open Futures positioning: “This week’s positioning” covers the financial futures in the CFTC Traders in Financial Futures and futures-only reports.
  2. 2Read each market’s z-score and 52-week COT index to see which positions are stretched.
  3. 3From Plus, open COT in depth: every market, every trader group, and the COT index with its history.
  4. 4For energy, metals and agriculture, the Commodities section adds positioning next to prices, relative value and correlations.

What you get

A weekly list of stretched positions, measured the same way across markets.

Following the largest funds and corporate insiders

Quarterly 13F filings show where institutional money went; Form 4 shows directors buying or selling their own company. Both are public, both are tedious to read raw.

In MEDGE

  1. 1Open Insiders & Funds → SEC 13F for hedge-fund holdings and the names most held across tracked funds.
  2. 2Switch to SEC Form 4 for top insider buys, cluster buys and the activity by company.
  3. 3Add FCA short positions to see the most-shorted UK companies.
  4. 4In Portfolio Exposure (Plus), “Institutional ownership & insiders” shows the same data for the holdings of your saved portfolios.

What you get

What institutions and insiders are doing, filtered down to the companies you own.

Reading liquidity: central banks and the Treasury

Balance sheets, reserve flows and the Treasury’s cash account drive liquidity, and liquidity drives risk assets.

In MEDGE

  1. 1Open Central banks: Fed Watch with the weekly H.4.1 balance sheet and the SLOOS lending survey, and the balance sheets of non-Fed central banks.
  2. 2Open Sovereign & cross-border: Treasury Daily Statement, Treasury TIC foreign holdings, BIS credit gap and cross-border data, and the Fed Z.1 financial accounts.
  3. 3Check the official daily US Treasury yield curve, from 1 month to 30 years, and the 2s10s spread, free on every plan.

Which macro event matters for my portfolio right now?

Trade war, the Fed, oil, the yen carry trade, AI capex: there is always a headline. The question is which one your portfolio is actually exposed to.

In MEDGE

  1. 1Open Focus: 14 events, from FOMC rate path and US CPI to OPEC+, BoJ normalisation, China property and Middle East shipping lanes, each scored 0–100 every day from intensity, uncertainty, contagion and salience.
  2. 2Check the market regime (calm, stress, panic), the top movers over 5 days and the 90-day aggregate pressure.
  3. 3In the analyzer’s Focus tab, see which events would hurt or help your portfolio, the largest potential loss and where the exposure sits, in percentage points in a bad month.
  4. 4Add your own events; they are kept in your browser.

Turning a macro view into a scenario

You expect a dollar surge, a stagflation episode or a rate shock. The useful question is what it would do to your positions.

In MEDGE

  1. 1In Backtesting → Stress Lab, apply “Dollar surge”, “Rates up, duration sold”, “China slowdown” or another starting point, or set your own shocks on 45 benchmarks including currencies, rates and credit, and commodities.
  2. 2Read “How unusual is this scenario?” and “Do the shocks agree with each other?” to check that your view is internally consistent.
  3. 3See the portfolio’s expected move, the hardest-hit holding, “When something like this happened before” and “What holds up in this scenario”.

What you get

Your macro view expressed as numbers on your own portfolio, with a check on its consistency.
