A portfolio analyzer for individual investors: understand what you own, in depth.

You picked your stocks and ETFs yourself. MEDGE Capital shows you what that portfolio really does: where the return came from, how far it can fall, how it behaves in bad markets, what one scenario would cost you, and what insiders and the largest funds are doing with the same stocks. US and European listings, on the web and as an installable app.

  • Free plan with no time limit: backtests, exact attribution, regimes and what-if replays
  • Real-time prices for US listings during market hours
  • Insider trades, 13F fund holdings and futures positioning, free

Who it’s for

  • Self-directed investors in the US, Europe and elsewhere who hold stocks and ETFs at any broker.
  • Investors who want to understand their portfolio’s risk without learning a programming language or a terminal.
  • Investors who follow markets daily and want one place for prices, charts, news briefings and their own portfolio.

Who it’s not for

  • Anyone looking for stock tips or buy and sell signals: MEDGE measures, it does not recommend.
  • Day traders who need level-2 data, order execution or intraday prices on non-US exchanges.
  • Investors who want their broker account synced automatically: holdings are entered as tickers and weights.

Step by step

How MEDGE Capital helps individual investors, situation by situation.

A first, honest check-up of your portfolio

You know what you bought and roughly how it went. You do not know how risky it is compared with a simple index fund.

In MEDGE

  1. 1Open the analyzer (Portfolio → Analyze), search your stocks and ETFs and enter the weights in %, or leave them blank for equal weights.
  2. 2Set a start date with the 5Y, 10Y, 15Y or 20Y quick picks and press “Compute portfolio”.
  3. 3Read the Overview: CAGR, volatility, Sharpe, Sortino, maximum drawdown, Calmar, CVaR and Omega, the underwater chart, monthly returns and each holding’s risk contribution.
  4. 4In Backtesting → Overview, “What this backtest says” compares you with the benchmark (SPY by default): beta, alpha, tracking error, up and down capture, and the share of days you beat it.

What you get

A clear view of return and risk against a simple alternative, in a few minutes.

“Why did my portfolio fall this much?”

A bad quarter feels like the market’s fault. Often one or two holdings did most of the damage.

In MEDGE

  1. 1In Backtesting → Period Analysis, jump to the worst month, quarter or year, or pick the period you remember.
  2. 2Read “Inside the window — holding by holding” to see who fell most and who held up.
  3. 3In What-If, “Who earned the return” splits the result exactly by holding; “Try without” shows the portfolio without one position.
  4. 4Weak & Strong Spots adds a holding diagnosis, risk decomposition, stress correlations and drawdown attribution.

What you get

The holdings and the moments that explain the fall, instead of a vague “the market went down”.

“What happens if markets fall 30%?”

You cannot predict a crash, but you can know in advance what it would do to your money, and decide calmly whether that is acceptable.

In MEDGE

  1. 1Free: in Backtesting → External Ticker Shock, apply one of 12 presets such as “2008 GFC Replay”, “COVID-19 Crash” or “Rates Shock +200bp”, or shock a single ticker and see the expected impact through its estimated beta.
  2. 2From Essential: Backtesting → Stress Lab propagates your own shocks on 45 benchmarks to every holding, with a 90% band and the hardest-hit position.
  3. 3Change weights in “Change the mix” and see how much a smaller position would save in that scenario.

What you get

The size of the hit in a scenario you choose, before it happens, and what would reduce it.

Studying one stock before you buy it

A ticker looks interesting. Before adding it, you want its real risk, its worst falls, its dividends and how it moves with your portfolio.

In MEDGE

  1. 1Open Security Analysis and search the stock, ETF, index, commodity or Treasury yield.
  2. 2Read the profile, the 10 key metrics (from total return and CAGR to Ulcer, CVaR and Omega), window returns, drawdowns and monthly returns.
  3. 3Check dividends (trailing yield, 5-year growth, streak) and the comparison with its benchmark, rolling beta and deepest drawdowns.
  4. 4Open it in Charts with indicators and drawing tools, or test it in your portfolio with a what-if replay.

What you get

A full profile of the security, and how it would change your portfolio, before you commit money.

Seeing what insiders and big funds are doing

Directors buying their own stock, or a famous fund building a position, is public information. It is just scattered across filings.

In MEDGE

  1. 1Open Insiders & Funds: SEC Form 4 insider trades with top insider buys and cluster buys, SEC 13F hedge-fund holdings with the most-held names, and UK short positions from the FCA.
  2. 2Open Futures positioning for the weekly CFTC data, with z-scores and the 52-week COT index.
  3. 3Browse the public pages of famous investors’ latest 13F portfolios.

What you get

Official positioning data on the stocks you own or watch, in one place.

What MEDGE does not do

Worth knowing before you decide.

  • No broker sync: holdings are entered as tickers and weights.
  • Real-time prices for US listings during market hours; other listings update at the last close.
  • No buy or sell signals, ratings or price targets.
  • Equity fundamentals are lighter than in dedicated stock-research platforms.

FAQ

MEDGE Capital for individual investors: questions.

What is a portfolio analyzer, and is there a free one?

A portfolio analyzer takes your holdings and weights and shows how the portfolio has behaved: return, volatility, maximum drawdown, Sharpe and Sortino ratios, and how the holdings move together. MEDGE Capital’s Free plan includes the portfolio overview, the backtesting lab, exact attribution, regimes and what-if replays, with no time limit.

Does MEDGE Capital work for US investors?

Yes. US stocks and ETFs are fully supported, with real-time prices during market hours, SEC insider and 13F data, and the S&P 500 as the default benchmark. European and other listings can be mixed in the same portfolio.

Do I need to connect my brokerage account?

No. You enter tickers and weights, so nothing is shared with MEDGE about your accounts or balances. The flip side is that changes in your holdings are not synced automatically.

Is there a mobile app?

MEDGE Capital installs from the browser as an app on phones and computers, with push notifications for alerts and the evening recap. On iPhone, add it to the Home Screen (iOS 16.4 or later) to receive notifications.

Does MEDGE tell me what to buy?

No. MEDGE Capital is an analytics tool: it measures risk, returns and scenarios on the portfolio you choose. It does not give recommendations, signals or price targets.

Paste your tickers and weights. Backtests, attribution and regimes work on the Free plan with no time limit; upgrade only when you need the features above.
