For monthly savers: plan your DCA, then keep its risk under control.

A savings plan is simple to start and easy to forget. MEDGE Capital helps at both ends: before you start, a simulator with taxes, inflation, fees and 400 Monte Carlo paths shows a realistic range of outcomes; once the plan runs, backtests, stress tests, alerts and an evening recap tell you how much risk the growing portfolio is carrying.

  • PAC / DCA planner with 400 Monte Carlo paths, inflation and your capital-gains tax rate
  • The same plan replayed on real market history, with the best and worst start dates
  • Alerts and an evening recap on the portfolio you are building, free

Who it’s for

  • Investors who put a fixed amount into one or a few ETFs every month (PAC in Italy, Sparplan in Germany, DCA elsewhere).
  • Savers who want to know what range of results is realistic, after tax and inflation, before committing for 10 or 20 years.
  • Anyone whose plan has grown large enough that a 30% fall would now be a real amount of money.

Who it’s not for

  • Tax filing: the simulator applies one capital-gains rate you choose, not your country’s full rules.
  • Automatic tracking of each purchase: MEDGE analyses the portfolio’s weights, not your transaction history.
  • Investors looking for the “best time” to buy: the tools measure risk, they do not time the market.

Step by step

How MEDGE Capital helps dca and savings-plan investors, situation by situation.

Setting up the plan with realistic expectations

Online calculators show one smooth line at 7% a year. Real plans end up in a range, and taxes and inflation take their share.

In MEDGE

  1. 1Open PAC / DCA and pick a quick-start template, from “Fixed Monthly DCA” and “Micro-DCA (Weekly)” to “Gradual Growth”, “Annual Step-up” or “Glidepath”.
  2. 2Set the amount in euros, the frequency (weekly to every 6 months), the duration (5 to 30 years or exact dates) and a risk profile from 1 to 10.
  3. 3Under Assumptions, adjust expected return, volatility, inflation and your capital-gains tax rate (26% by default, the Italian rate).
  4. 4Read the expected value with its 8-in-10 range, what you pay in, the growth, the value after tax and in today’s money, and the projection fan in nominal or real terms.

What you get

A plan with a realistic range of outcomes, net of tax and inflation, before the first payment.

Monthly plan or lump sum? And does the start date matter?

If you have the money now, investing it all at once usually wins on average, but the plan feels safer. The real question is how much the timing changes.

In MEDGE

  1. 1In the same page, read “Regular plan vs lump sum”, net of tax.
  2. 2Open “The same plan on real market history” and pick an index ETF such as SPY, VT, EFA, EEM, AGG or GLD, with its annual cost (TER).
  3. 3See what you paid in, the final value, the gain and the annual return (IRR), then “How much the start date matters”: the worst, median and best start and the share of start dates that ended in profit.
  4. 4Check “What fees cost”, or start from a target with “Monthly payment needed”.

What you get

How much timing and fees really change your plan, measured on real history rather than assumed.

Choosing what to buy every month

One world ETF, or a few funds? Adding bonds or gold? The choice decides how bumpy the ride will be.

In MEDGE

  1. 1Compare your candidate mix with 12 standard portfolios in the analyzer’s Preset Portfolios tab, or browse the 23 models with live performance in Portfolio Models.
  2. 2Use Tools → Correlation matrix to check whether the funds you are considering actually diversify.
  3. 3Backtest the chosen mix with the rebalancing you plan to use, including transaction costs.

What you get

A mix you understand before you commit years of monthly payments to it.

The plan has grown: how much risk is it carrying now?

After five or ten years the same percentage fall means a much bigger amount. It is worth checking the portfolio, not just the monthly payment.

In MEDGE

  1. 1Save the portfolio you are building with its current weights (1 portfolio on Free, 10 on Essential).
  2. 2The analyzer shows maximum drawdown, volatility, CVaR and the underwater chart; the Regime Summary shows how it behaves in bear markets.
  3. 3In Backtesting → External Ticker Shock, replay presets such as “2008 GFC Replay” or “COVID-19 Crash” on your weights.
  4. 4From Essential, the Stress Lab propagates your own scenario to every holding and the Analysis tab tracks rolling volatility and Sharpe.

Staying on track without checking every day

A savings plan works best when you do not touch it in a panic. You still want to know when something important happens.

In MEDGE

  1. 1Install MEDGE as an app and turn on notifications.
  2. 2Add your funds to a watchlist with price levels (“Level above”, “Level below”) and big-move alerts from ±3% to ±10%.
  3. 3After the US close, the evening recap summarises how your saved portfolio moved.
  4. 4Once a month, ask your AI assistant to run the “monthly_plan” prompt through MEDGE’s MCP server.

What MEDGE does not do

Worth knowing before you decide.

  • One capital-gains rate, set by you; country-specific tax rules are not modelled.
  • The real-history replay uses US-listed index ETFs as market references.
  • MEDGE analyses the portfolio’s weights, not your individual purchases.
  • Analytics, not advice: MEDGE does not tell you what or when to buy.

FAQ

MEDGE Capital for dca and savings-plan investors: questions.

Is there a DCA or PAC simulator with taxes and inflation?

Yes. MEDGE Capital’s PAC / DCA planner simulates weekly to six-monthly contributions with 400 Monte Carlo paths, inflation and a capital-gains tax rate you set (26% by default). It shows the expected value with an 8-in-10 range, the value after tax and in today’s money. It is free.

Is it better to invest monthly or all at once?

It depends on the period, which is why the planner compares your regular plan with a lump sum net of tax, and replays the plan on real market history to show how much the start date changed the result. MEDGE shows the trade-off; the decision is yours.

How do I track the risk of my savings plan over time?

Save the portfolio you are building and check its maximum drawdown, volatility, CVaR and behaviour in bear markets in the analyzer. Replay past crises with External Ticker Shock for free, or run your own scenarios in the Stress Lab from Essential. Alerts and an evening recap notify you of big moves.
